Pablo Settings User Guide
Overview
The Settings tool in Pablo allows you to configure essential parameters for the application, including API provider selection, authentication credentials, and storage locations. Accessed via the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom left of the interface, Settings ensures Pablo is properly connected to AI services and knows where to store your notes.
Accessing Settings
- Locate the Gear Icon: Find the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom left corner of the Pablo interface
- Click to Open: Click the gear icon to open the Settings panel
- View Configuration: The Settings panel displays on the right side of the screen
Settings Configuration
API Provider
The API Provider dropdown allows you to select which AI service Pablo will use for processing requests.
To Configure:
- Click the API Provider dropdown menu
- Select your preferred provider from the available options (e.g., “Headgym Dev”)
- The selected provider will be used for all AI-powered features in Pablo
Available Providers:
- Headgym Dev (as shown in screenshot)
- Other providers may be available depending on your installation
API Key
The API Key field securely stores your authentication credentials for the selected API provider.
To Set Your API Key:
- Click in the API Key field (displayed with dots for security)
- Enter your API key obtained from your AI provider
- The key is masked for security and stored securely
- Click Save Settings to apply
Important Security Notes:
- Never share your API key with others
- Keep your API key confidential
- If compromised, regenerate a new key from your provider’s dashboard
- Pablo stores the key securely in your local configuration
Notes Directory
The Notes Directory setting specifies where Pablo will save all your notes and documents.
To Configure:
- View the current directory path (e.g.,
/bal/Documents/_pablo-notes-dir/) - Click the Select Dir button to choose a different location
- Navigate to your preferred folder in the file browser
- Select the folder and confirm
Best Practices:
- Choose a location that’s regularly backed up
- Ensure you have write permissions to the directory
- Consider using cloud-synced folders (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) for automatic backup
- Avoid system directories or temporary folders
Save Settings
After making any changes to your configuration, you must save them to apply.
To Save:
- Review all your settings to ensure they’re correct
- Click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the panel
- Wait for confirmation that settings were saved successfully
- Your configuration is now active and will persist across sessions
Best Practices
- Regular Backups: Ensure your Notes Directory is backed up regularly
- Secure API Keys: Treat API keys like passwords - keep them private
- Test After Changes: After updating settings, test Pablo’s functionality to ensure everything works
- Document Your Setup: Keep a record of your API provider and notes directory location
- Update Promptly: If your API provider changes their authentication system, update your key immediately
Troubleshooting
Settings Won’t Save
- Check Permissions: Ensure you have write access to Pablo’s configuration directory
- Verify API Key: Confirm your API key is valid and correctly entered
- Restart Pablo: Close and reopen the application to reload configuration
API Connection Errors
- Verify API Key: Double-check that your API key is correct and active
- Check Provider: Ensure the selected API provider matches your API key
- Network Connection: Confirm you have internet connectivity
- Provider Status: Check if your API provider’s service is operational
Notes Directory Issues
- Invalid Path: Ensure the directory path exists and is accessible
- Permission Denied: Verify you have read/write permissions for the selected directory
- Disk Space: Check that sufficient storage space is available
- Path Format: Ensure the path format is correct for your operating system
Changes Not Applied
- Save Required: Always click “Save Settings” after making changes
- Restart Needed: Some changes may require restarting Pablo
- Configuration Lock: Ensure no other instance of Pablo is running
